Head Coach of Rivers Angels, Edwin Okon, has reiterated the importance of his side to win their first game of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super 4 on Friday at the Agege Township stadium in Lagos.
The Jewel of Rivers will be up against defending Champions, Nasarawa Amazons in the second game of the day and Okon says it’s a game they can not afford to lose.
In the 2017 edition of the NWFL Super 4, Rivers Angels finished 4th with just one point, having lost their first two opening matches against Nasarawa Amazons and Delta Queens before playing out a goalless draw with Bayelsa Queens.
“I just want us to cross the first hurdle which is against Amazons,” began Okon.
“No team here is a pushover so I’ll approach it with every seriousness.
“Having lost out in the previous edition, I’m the most eager to get a desirable result tomorrow,” said Okon.
Meanwhile, for the game proper, Rivers Angels forward, Vivian Ikechukwu, says the team will not settle for anything less than a victory.
“We’re very much prepared for this showdown and wish to prove to the world once more that we’re the best,” said Ikechukwu.
“Based on the last Super 4 experience, this very one means a lot to the team and we won’t settle for anything less than lifting the trophy.
“This Championship in Lagos is a different ball game and we’ll approach it with everything we’ve got,” she added.
Rivers Angels will play Nasarawa Amazons by 4pm after the first game between Bayelsa Queens and Sunshine Queens which is slated to kickoff by 2pm.
