The last preliminary league game between defending champions, Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens in the NWPL Super 4 will now be played under flood lights at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
The match whose results could still change the standings on the log to determine the last two teams for the grand finale on Friday was shifted by the organisers from 4pm today at the soccer pitch of the Paragon Schools, Sapele Road, to the Ogbe Stadium, because the grass on the pitch was too high to allow free flowing football.
The new kick-off of Rivers Angels versus Bayelsa Queens game has been fixed for 7pm immediately after the Nasarawa Amazons versus Delta Queens game.
Despite the delay, some women’s football followers are expectant of watching a women’s football match that would be played under floodlight after a very long time. Former Inneh Queens coach, Sunny Iwegbu, said: “It’s a blessing in disguise. We never knew we were going to see a women’s football game under floodlight in the Super 4. The last time we saw a women’s football match played under floodlight was in the women’s football event final of the 2000 National Sports Festival in Bauchi at the Abubarkar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi between Inneh Queens and Pelican Stars. Inneh Queens won 2-1 to grab the festival gold medal.
The organisers had wanted the last two preliminary games of the Super 4 to be played simultaneously to avoid any match fixing situation.
