Olori Babes recorded their second victory at the ongoing Nigeria Women Football League Pro-League Playoffs, presently going on in Lokoja, after stunning seven time NWPL Champions Pelican Stars by a lone goal.
Captain Enoma Osazee scored the lone goal of the match in the 20th minute to add to the lone goal she scored against Moje Queens yesterday, after a rebound from Pelican Stars goalkeeper Ruth Sunday.
Ifunanya Ugwu, Chika Idika all impressed for the ‘Warri’ based team but couldn’t add more to the only goal of the match as Ruth Sunday kept her side safe from their threats.
Pelican Stars forward Monica Ohaeche came close to levelling the scoreline for her team in the 81st minute, but saw her shot go wide.
Speaking to thenwfl.com after the game, head coach of Pelican Stars, Edet Egan said he was disappointed with the result and felt his team should have done better.
“I am indeed not happy with today’s result, I felt we deserve more. I am really disturbed.
” The game is over and we have to look forward to the next game against Moje Queens on Friday. I am confident we will get a good result against them.
Meanwhile Olori Babes Head Coach Abayomi Olorunda said he was glad they got it right against Pelican Stars despite been tagged underdogs.
“This is a big result for us and it seems we are almost through to the premier league. I want to give kudos to my young team who gave their all today”, Pelican Stars are the most successful team in the NWPL, winning them means a lot to me”. He concluded.
In the other game of the day, Police Machine FC won Moje Queens by three goals to two in a thrilling encounter.
Chiamaka Okwuchukwu became the first player to score a hat-trick in this year’s NWFL Pro-League as she scored in the 5th, 26th, 32nd minute while also recording an own goal in the 45th minute.
Moje Queens had scoring opportunities but threw them away, Oyewole Toyin, Bunmi David and Ajibade Suliyat were all culprit as they lost their second game of the Pro-League Playoffs.
Games will continue on Friday as Pelican Stars will lock horn with Moje Queens, while Olori Babes will see if they can continue with their winning streak as they battle inform Police Machine FC.
