Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has practically moved men and material to Lagos to ensure the maiden NWFL Champions Shield meets its bookmakers prediction as the best championship ever held in the annals of women football.
Prior to the NWFL Champions Shield there will be a Congress of the body on Saturday, March 03 to set the stage for activities that will herald the new league season.
The maiden Champions Shield the first silverware on grab for the combatants, Nigerian champions, Nasarawa Amazons and Aiteo Cup winners, Rivers Angels is billed for the newly refurbished ‘Soccer Temple’ – Agege International Stadium in Lagos on Sunday, March 04, 2018.
There will be mentorship talk on education and football involving over 1000 girls as part of the league body’s Community Relations Service (CRS).
The sponsor of the premiere football fiesta is the government of Lagos state under the leadership of amiable governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.
The NWFL chairperson, Aisha Falode said the body is working round the clock with the personnel of their sponsors, Lagos state to ensure that no stone is left unturned to give the football feast the ambience and flavour it rightly deserves.
“Of course, the activities and headquarters of the NWFL have been moved to Lagos to ensure the Congress and Champions Shield turned out a huge success.
“Already the league body and relevant officials of the sponsors, Lagos state is having the best of working relationships and wonderful rapport to make sure everything goes on flawlessly.
“The stadium is in its best form given the recent upgrade and refurbishment to international standard to accommodate the nation’s Caf Champions Cup campaigners, Mountain of Fire Miracles Ministries (MFM FC).
“Officials of the two teams are making last minute effort to come into the state a bit early as to familiarise themselves with the local fans as well as get ready for the grand finale on Sunday.
“The teams know what is at stake the rare opportunity to go home with the first ever silverware of the year.
“None of them is taking the clash lightly more so for one of the combatants, Rivers Angels it affords them a good platform to prove once again that they are the best in the land notwithstanding the mishaps that took place at the NWPL Super 4 championship in Benin City.
“Everything is set for the august celebration of the best women football and the tempo and hype will get louder as we head to the zero hours,” said Falode.
Already the Chairman, Lagos State Sports Council, Dr Kweku Tandoh has assured the council has the permission of the government to ensure the league body lacks nothing that will add to the success of the football fiesta.
“I’m positive that Agege and its environs will witness something in terms of football that has never happened previously on the ground.
“The women are coming with their special flair of football to lighten the environment with football artistries.
“The state government is ever ready to support every progressive body to move sports forward in the state.
“The NWFL leadership under the auspices of Aisha Falode typified a progressive football body and we have the mandate of the governor to make the NWFL Champions Shield a huge success.
“We are working together with their personnel to ensure this maiden edition gets off the ground smoothly,” said Tandoh.
