The Nigeria Women Football League board has announced that a “Minute silence” will be observed in the memory of late Ifeanyi Chiejine before the Champion Shield game between Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Saturday.
The NWFL announced its decision following the sad death of Ifeanyi Chiejine who won the Nigeria Women Premier League title twice with Bayelsa Queens and is seen as a legend of the club.
“The NWFL board is deeply saddened by the terrible news that Ifeanyi Chiejine has passed away. I would like to express my sincere condolences to her family and loved ones for the loss.” The Chairperson of the NWFL, Aisha Falode, said.
She added: “Ifeanyi was a humble player and was a pride of the Nigeria Women Football League, as she regularly made the first team of the Super Falcons even when she was with Bayelsa Queens.
“She had a glittering career and won numerous individual honours. Everyone at the NWFL are deeply shocked and saddened that her life was cut short at 36.” She concluded.
The NWFL Champion Shield will come up between League Champion Bayelsa Queens and 2018 AITEO Cup Winners Rivers Angels on Saturday at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.
